Ideas for Homemade Photo Frames

Looking for a craft project that you can enjoy with your children, or perhaps an affordable handmade gift that you can create? Photo frames can be practical, beautiful and simple to make using items you already have around your home. Here are some picture frame craft ideas to get you started.
Craft sticks are an ideal medium to use to create your own photo frames. You can save the sticks from flavored ice pops or buy an inexpensive bag at your favorite craft store. Glue them together into the shape and size you desire, leaving a hole in the center for a photo. If you wish, you can paint or decorate the sticks after the glue has dried.
Save cereal boxes and other cardboard food packages to make custom photo frames in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. Trace the photo you want to display onto the box and use a craft knife to slice the hole just a bit smaller than the picture. Wrap the box in anything from leftover wallpaper to comics from the Sunday paper to strips of colorful magazine pages, and then glue the photo onto the inside of the cutout.
You can make photo frames from items found outside of your home, as well. For instance, you might hot glue bunches of small but sturdy twigs to form a square or rectangle frame to show off a favorite photo of your family’s camping trip.
Before you toss a tissue box, consider whether it might make a lovely picture frame. Many tissue boxes are decorated with stylish colors and designs. Smaller, cube-shaped boxes are ideal to use as frames. All you need to do is cut a square or circle around the existing opening, making it large enough to show your photo.
Look around your home, dig through your recycle bin and scour your backyard. Chances are good that you will find lots of objects you can use to make one of a kind, gift-worthy picture frames.
